Jesse Chehak is a photographer, artist, and educator. His photographs and projects are inquisitive encounters with place, community, the environment, and experiences. His approach to portraiture and landscape photography takes its contemporary departure from the established traditions of these genres, which he developed with the guidance of the preeminent American photographers Joel Sternfeld at Sarah Lawrence College and with Frank Gohlke at the University of Arizona. His art practice is underpinned by independent projects, exhibitions, and collaborations across a wide spectrum of printed and digital media. In the fall of 2018, Chehak joined the visual arts department at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles.
